My main goal and focus right now is getting my health to a better and more stable place. Meditation, eating clean, yoga and giving up things in my life that are not serving me. Stress… Anxiousness and self-loathing. I feel invigorated to move forward in all of these things.

My feminine focus is balance…balance between giving and receiving. I have always been too much of a giver, at a great personal cost to myself! I am focusing on being a receiver letting the good flow to me instead of trying to chase after it. Taking care of myself and not feeling guilty when I need time for quiet and rest.

I want to be very productive at work today, so that I am free the next few days to just BE with my kids. I want to spend time tonight preparing for the next 3 days I have with my kids so that it is less stressful for all of us. Lastly, I want to end the day with some self-care, time for me to relax !

I want to get some of the small things off my plate:
Clean out inbox, send invoices, put newsletter together, so that I can have more space to breathe easily and focus on my vision for the future. I would also like to spend some quality time with my husband tonight. I seek to give myself the freedom to BE.

    Reply
    • Nisha Moodley

Yes, Theresa!!! What will it take to get those small things off your plate? If you were to stop everything right now and take the next 30 minutes, could you get it done? I challenge you to make it a game – how much can you get done before the timer goes off. Have fun while creating more space. Let me know how it goes πŸ™‚

This exercise was really helpful for me. I normally wake up in the morning pop out of bed and develop a to do list for the day or week and then become overwhelmed or completely consumed by it. Going back to my north star reminded of why I’m doing what I’m doing and gave me clarity. I was able to move past the long list and get specific on what I need to do to navigate towards my north star.

For today I am working on developing content for my website and nourishing my body with healthy, yummy food.

    Thank you Nisha πŸ™‚

Today I want to take some time for self-reflection to think about what is working in my life and what is not. This has been something I’ve been working on since Friday evening but I don’t want it to stop just because work has started again.

I also want to leave work at a reasonable time tonight so that I have the time and energy to come home and work on a personal project. And then I want to actually work on that project rather than distract myself with email or television πŸ™‚

    • Nisha Moodley

Wonderful, Amy. What will it take to leave work earlier? And what is a reasonable time? The more specific you can get, the more likely you are to make it happen. Best of luck to you, sister!

My main issue is not overworking but procrastination. I truly wish I had the desire and drive to work all hours of the night and day on my passion. It happens so infrequently that when it does happen it actually feels good. Like amazing! I’m in the middle of writing a novel and all I feel is resistance. Part of this might be that I’m working alone and it’s, well, lonely! Before I left corporate america (to write this GD novel!) I worked with six amazing women every day and I miss that so much. We’d write for like 45 minutes and then sit and chat for 20. It was awesome to have that kind of support. I’ve been thinking about starting a women’s spiritual co-working space in San Francisco a few times a week, but I’m not sure where to start. Hoping the universe will put the right things in place for that to happen. Until then, my goal for today is to work on my novel for an hour. Then maybe I’ll write about procrastination on my blog.

    Reply
    • Nisha Moodley

Oh, Abbey. I hear you, sister! Couple of thoughts come to mind. For the writing, what if you were to only commit to writing 2 pages a day – that’s all. If you want to write more, then you can. But you only have to write 2 pages (Tim Ferriss talks a lot about this – he calls them 2 crappy pages a day).

Second, is there a way to create your own writing circle, or even find a writing partner, that will give you the support and connection you are missing?

I am so grateful to you for sharing your struggles here. Let us know how we can support you, love!

Wow, thank you for this video! I feel way less overwhelmed about my to-do list.

My ‘why’ is because I want to surround myself in a healthy lifestyle. So I’m going to clean out my space of unnecessary clutter, send out some important emails, and go to a new yoga studio I’ve been wanting to go to.

Wow, you’re making me be very conscious to upgrade what’s already at work in me. Every morning I start thinking about what I should do and many times I choose to ignore it and feel ashamed at the end of the day when I wasn’t a better wife or biz leader that day having done what I felt I should have.

Just taking the conscious power back over that process already feels great. It’s not about what I “should” do, but simply what’s most important and feeling into the sense of pride at already having completed it is an energy surge to actually do it!

That said, I’m off to get groceries and prepare a meal for when my love gets home from his first day at a new job! I know he’s going to be excited and hungry and ready for my attention so having the groceries and food prep done I can give him my attention and affection and we can take our evening hike stress free. After all, I really appreciate him taking a job while he’s at school full time so that I can continue building my biz, he’s most important!!!

    Thanks Nisha! <3

Hello! Thanks for the great video. Going back to my “why” is very helpful. I feel really frantic these days, as I have been juggling so many things for a very long time in order to create my dream career. Sometimes I am very productive and often times I’m just dizzy and distracted and beating myself up for not being better at what I do– and then reaching for things like coffee and non-nutritious snacks. I like the question on what would make me proud. I will ask myself that everyday, as it really puts what I am doing into perspective. My heart and brain feel calmer now. Thank you.

After watching Nisha’s video this afternoon, I stopped checking work emails on my day off and started making some cute jewelry for myself. I’m off to go pick up my daughter from school and go for a walk or a bike ride together. At the end of the day, I know I will be proud of the quality time I spent with my family, the new earrings that I made, and the space I created for freedom & healing.

I want to work on not being so obsessed with productivity. I am sure that if I wanted to, I could fill every second of every day with graduate school work and research and still not be satisfied with my outcomes.

Instead I am choosing to give myself at least 15-20 minutes every morning, to sit in silence, meditate, and enjoy my tea and breakfast by myself. I am going to work on being more OK with not getting everything finished on time. Because the only person with the crazy timeline for my productivity is me.

My plan for the afternoon, seeing as it’s already past three, is to take some time to focus on myself. To take the dog for a walk and smell the roses instead of just pushing, pushing, and pushing through all the things that give me a migraine and stress me out. Give myself a chance to think up a game plan to break down all the things going on in my life and put my focus onto the ones that matter most.

I am really loving your GRACE. Finding my North Star came very easily for me because it was that very “lightning moment” that created my dream of Honey Dews. It is so easy to become so consumed with reaching success that we forget to stop and remember what it was that made it such a lightning moment to begin with. Becoming more present in my daily achievements and being proud to be moving in the direction of positivity are now my new goals. Finding like-minded people to share in this journey and reaching far beyond my comfort level is so rewarding. I am so happy to have found you and thank you so much for your guidance.

While writing down my WHY and doing this exercise, I also took time to write down a list of all of the different things I take responsibility for (emails, laundry, etc.).

It was such an eye-opening experience.

When I wrote some things down on the paper, I felt an immediate weight on my shoulders and a hole in the pit of my stomach. It definitely made it more clear which things I needed to remove, which things I really need to be doing and which things would leave me feeling proud, fulfilled and accomplished. Beautiful Nisha,

I am starting to get addicted to your philosophy, energy and videos! There is a beautifully simple, raw, honest, feminine, strong and focused way to your approach to redesigning the lives and freedom we truly desire for ourselves as modern ambitious spiritual women. I could not relate more to your experience and teachings. As a Hollywood actress who went on a life adventure by moving to Saudi Arabia and being a new at-home mother, I saw my identity and purpose shatter into a million pieces and saw myself plunge into annihilation. Today I have emerged from the abyss and am thankful for the crisis because I never want to live the anxiety-ridden stressful and soul-sucking lifestyle I lived as an actress in LA. From today on my definition of success, joy, pleasure, adventure and self-realization are mine only to define, make up, celebrate and enjoy. As for my aligned attitudes, I am going to keep them simple because my time is so surreal-ly limited: I am going to finish designing my website, finish up a handful of blog posts so I am not backed up, learn how to work on wordpress on my own to manage my blog & newsletters and… finally launch my website! Those are my aligned actions for the next couple of months. Thank you for creating this space Nisha. Much Love, Rana

Loved this video Nisha. I am finding myself at a crossroad right now with the direction I want to take with my business. Thinking about the northstar exercise it’s interesting for me to see that my personal why and my why for the world are very much the same for either direction… It’s a relief on the one hand because I know (I can really feel it) that I am going into the right direction, but when it comes to my focus I find myself going back and forth daily between options or the two ways I can let my why find expression… What helps me is thinking about what will make me proud. I will take some time today to really think about that question. Thank you for these beautiful videos. They are stunning and the energy around them is so inspiring. XO

This is really helpful in re-directing me on path. I have been procrastinating on creating a 200 teacher training/coaching program by not asking myself daily, “what do I really have to do?”

It is the end of the day and for the last question I am happy to say my day has been full of things I am proud of: I did a cold plunge in the ocean at 7:30a.m., taught a yoga class (love doing this so much), I coached a client (also love this so much), had a quick 10 minute check-in with another client, I made a super awesome lunch for myself, and now I am heading to capoeira class (starting back after taking a long break). πŸ˜‰ haha…looks like I am pretty good at the last question…so onto playing more with the second one.

My plan is to join friends at a walking trail, perhaps have coffee or lunch, go to the beach for a walk, and do some enjoyable things for a change. If I also make some work connections with these friends, that would be great. I have given so much of myself for the past 7 years, that I need to take time to fill myself back up, and not feel guilty about doing it.

Great exercise! For the past few nights I’ve been reflecting on what I’m most proud of from my day. As a full-time momma to a one-year old, I currently only work on my health coaching business (i.e. SLOWLY getting through Marie’s B School) during nap time. I often feel “behind” and this exercise gave me room to pause.

By reflecting on my day I realized often the things I was most proud of doing were related to being a mother: feeding my daughter homemade, nourishing food; literally nursing her back to health both day and night from a week long cold; singing her songs as we play, run errands and hang out at home; introducing her to yoga….

I am also contemplating what it looks and feels like to enjoy the journey of creating my website as much as the end result of having my website complete!

    love this community Nisha!!

Watching this video confirms my thinking lately. In the past I was pretty cavalier about my health. This past September I had something happen that could have been fatal. So my vital focus every day is to think about myself and my body first. Why? Because if I don’t take care of myself, no one else is going to do it. What do I really have to do? Checking in with myself before I just into something. Am I strong enough today to do this? Will the world end if I skip it? No, it won’t. But if I force myself to do it and then can’t get out of bed tomorrow how have I helped myself? What will make me proud? Looking back at the day from my bedside knowing that I did the things I knew were needed for me to get healthy and stronger, both mentally and physically.

My North Star is to inpire Self Healing in myself and others. I truly believe that everything we are searching for, is patiently waiting to be revealed within us! That being said, my WHY for today is because everyone, myself included, deserves to know that they have the power, strength, and magic to heal and manifest within them. WHAT do I really have to do? I need to balance my work, family, friends, and personal time. In most cases, I focus 100% on others (a littlbe bit codependent of me, I know). However, how can I possibly put the oxygen mask on someone else if I can’t put it on for myself first?? Lastly, what would make me PROUD would be going to bed at night knowing that I refilled myself toay – after all my hard work and intense focus, I took a moment to myself to paint my nails, to style my hair, to meditation and permit myself to feel beautiful inside and out. So, after all of that, my difined actions for today are to finish teaching my yoga classes, eat a fresh and fueing meal, stroll over to a park with a good book and some nail polish πŸ™‚ and just let go and be free! <3

What I REALLY need to do is make sure I am well fed, clean and well rested.

What would make me PROUD is being thoroughly prepared for my upcoming exam tomorrow. If I found some way to overcome the feeling of overwhelm that paralyses me. And just do my best.

I’ve struggled with my North Star for the past few days (what is it that I actually want and why???) but I’m beginning to feel clarity the more I ask myself these questions! The steps I am going to take every day to reach my goals:
    1. Be happy and present when with company but be happier and present when alone! (I’ve always tried to fill my day with other people or jobs because I despise being by myself!)
    2. Move! Stretch, run, jump… Anything to move! I am usually an active person but as soon as I find myself in a stressful situation I hibernate. But really on the days that I’ve chosen to do yoga instead I feel immensely more focused and prepared.
    3. Fill my brain, heart/soul and stomach with goodness! Eat well, have intellectual and inspiring conversations and do the things I love!

I need freedom and I need to help others gain freedom. And so I am trying to really clarify the kind of business I want to have. One of the first steps I took was taking B-school, which has been extremely helpful. As I have watched this video I’ve realized that what I really need to do is DECIDE. I do a ton of market research everyday trying to see what others want me to offer, but the question should be, what do I want to offer that would benefit myself AND others. It would make me proud if I was able to have the freedom to help others the way I would like and to spend time with my family. My daily goals then will be to make a decision about a small offering I want to do for my business and to put it into action without asking everyone else if they think it’s a good idea.

I love these questions. Just watched the video now in the early evening so I look forward to trying this new practice tomorrow morning. Meantime, for today, I really enjoyed feeling into my north star visions, and noticed they started to get even clearer and more delicious than they were when I first started writing about them with the first video. And I noticed for “what do I REALLY need to do?” that what came forward is a lot of foundational self-care stuff that I’ve been pushing off to the side, thinking the things that others need from me are more important and pressing. It feels kinda scary to fully own that these basic self-care things really are what I most need to do, as it may mean making some other people wait, which is uncomfortable. But I believe it will be worth it. And for “what would make me proud?” I loved what came forward: being present, cultivating pleasure and joy as I go about the rest of my day, showing up for my to-do list AND caring for myself at the same time, and doing something for my creative vision. So interesting to see how my inner voice is so clear about my aligned actions, and about a balanced combination of self-care and productivity, because I have lived a lot of my life in a more black-and-white zone of extremes: either hyper-productive or extreme self-care/borderline slacking off and numbing out when I get exhausted or resentful of my to-do list. This was a helpful exercise today and I look forward to practicing it for the rest of the week. Thank you!

My Why // Freedom + peace are two of the biggest words/ideals that have been on my mind for a very long time – especially within myself. I need to allow myself the permission to feel these.
Today, what I REALLY have to do is to quit procrastinating. So I am going to shoot one of my projects for my portfolio + complete one of my design phases to send to my client so she may look it over.
I’ll be really proud of myself if I complete these tasks + not allow my insecurities get in the way. I have been doing a lot of my work out of necessity + putting way too much pressure on myself to do more than I can handle. I want to return to the place where I do my work out of love + passion, not need + hustle.

My goal is to get out walking daily when i am off work. I would like to get up earlier & also do some more yoga at home or in a studio. My goal is to spend more time being quiet. I also have quite a few books i am reading through, which have been helpful, but i have a goal to have a smaller collection so i can implement what i learn. I want to have a more simple, clutter-free life & to write more. I enjoy aromatherapy & helping others, so my goal is to spend more time in nature, and making more home-based products instead of buying them to save money & so i know what is going into my products. I have a goal to help other women, but not those who take advantage of my kind nature. That has happened to me before where people start to control me & dump their negativity on me, male, female frienships & family. I want to be more in shape & eat better, but not push myself so hard i exhaust myself. Family can also be very critical & also want to know everything about my life, my house content organization (i think they expect perfection) & my financial business. I am quite organized, independent & in my 40’s & have realized family will never stop parenting because they don’t know how. They want me to come to them with help, but i want to be independent. They can be controlling & protective so that is why i don’t go to them, because they hinder me. i do have loving support, just exhausted with controlling people my whole life, no matter what i do to be happy, there is always some level of “oh that won’t work, why don’t you listen to us?” So tired of it, i enjoy my self-esteem. Therefore i spend little time with my family which is sad because i love them. i love them, not the control & if they keep smothering me, it will remain limited contacted & detached conversation. Thanks so much! πŸ™‚

My why is closely aligned with these 5 Vows/Intentions I picked up from a Joanna Macy retreat in 2009 in Ojai.

    1. To commit myself daily to the healing of the world and welfare of all beings.
    2. To live more simple and non-violently in the food, products and energy I consume.
    3. To draw strength and guidnace from the living Earth, the ancestors, the future generations and our brothers and sisters of all species.
    4. To support you in your work for the world and to ask for help when I need it.
    5. To observe a daily spiritual practice which clarifies the mind, strengthens the heart and helps me fulfill these intentions.

What I really have to do:
β€’ Send love filled invites for my free event – Oh My Goddess! Virtual Joy Retreat Connecting Body, Mind & Spirit
β€’ Update the website and send invites for my one-day in-person retreat – Create & Rejuvenate – in Toronto.

    What would make me proud?
β€’ Following through on my daily yoga practice
β€’ Dinner with my dream guy, Ben
    β€’ This time to reflect
β€’ Tell 3 people that I love them

I would feel proud tonight if I made myself a healthy dinner, at the very least take a walk on the path and take time this afternoon (and not procrastinate until it’s very late) to read through the material I need to review for work tomorrow.

I really like this exercise for the morning. I have been more conscious (based on things I have been involved in/read) of the need to turn inward as soon as I wake up and go to sleep, rather then focusing on externals. Thank you and I would feel proud of myself if I commit to doing this exercise daily!

        Hi Nisha,

I am wondering if you could offer any suggestion via this post? In the times that I have committed to completing this exercise, I continuously list basic self care in the “have to do” part (other then needing to go to work). Basic self care is definitely something I need to work on and needs to be a priority for me but I am not sure if I am getting what I need to out of the exercise or doing it the right way. I am not currently running my own company or anything, so I am not sure if this is what this exercise is more geared towards? I am wondering, if I were to continue to do this exercise, does it make sense that once I get better at basic self care I won’t need to intentionally put it in the “have to do part”? I could then start tackling and putting more intention into other important responsibilities like financial goals/planning etc… thanks!

Other days might mean more time praying and Bible study. No day will be exactly the same or “perfect”. Try going with the flow and easing into the day. You want your morning routine to be something that nourishes you, not something you have to do or a checklist. Hope that helps, love.

Way to go, Victoria. It will get easier, I promise. There will come a point when doing things not in alignment with what you desire is what feels wrong. And then you know you are being true to yourself. Congratulations on this powerful first step.

Nisha, thank you. I’m loving this video series! It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed each day with the things we THINK we need to do. Asking these post-it questions will really help decipher the necessary actions that need to be taken that align with our values and goals.

My goals at the moment are setting aside a certain amount of time each day to work on my online business and not spend longer than that on work (which is what I always tend to do…). Then at the same time practice self-love by incorporating daily meditation, being outside in nature, spending time with loved ones and getting to bed by 9pm.

What I need to do today is: 1. set my to do list for work so that i can prioritize a new project i was given and start if possible so that i feel productive and accomplished. 2. mail my book exchange package because i’m excited i participated and it makes me smile. 3. give myself 30 minutes to do something silly with the kids because they are really getting bored with their summer days at home and I didnt get to interact with them a lot yesterday. i’m sure there are other things, a lot, but this is what i feel would make today successful for me.

Great list of action items Kim. Were you able to get everything accomplished today? If so, how did it feel to do it first?

My main focus is to wake up and do the things aligned with regaining my health…juicing celery juice and drinking my lemon water, dry brushing, sauna, making smoothie and going for a walk with my dog.

Then I focus on spending some time with the ones I love. After that I focus on doing assignment for Health Coaching VLHHC

My aligned actions for today are to plan out my upcoming Yellowstone & SLC trip, connect with new and empowering women, and find an inspiring book to take with me on my trip!
